Hiking to the historical Sterna

Join us for a unique hiking adventure from Ancient Paleros to the beautiful and historic Sterna – a hidden gem with amazing views and a story to tell.

We start by taking you up the hill by car. From there, it’s about a 25-minute hike on a rocky path to the top. The walk is not too difficult, and the views along the way are truly worth it.

At the top of the narrow Sterna Peak, you’ll find the ruins of an ancient castle. This castle was likely built in the 5th century BC and was once a watchpoint protecting the region. Some believe it was part of ancient Palairos, overlooking the sea and guarding the entrance to the Amvrakikos Gulf.

The name “Sterna” comes from the old water cistern still found up there, which gives the place a sense of timelessness.

Once you reach the top—507 meters above sea level—you’ll be rewarded with stunning views in every direction. You can see Lefkada, Paleros, Plagia, Preveza, and even as far as Koronisia. The sea below sparkles, and the islands of the Little Ionian—Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos, Kefalonia, and Scorpios—make the view even more magical.
